This season we are growing these fruit varieties at Hawkswick . . .

Sonata Strawberries
A Dutch variety proving popular across the UK. The fruits have a firm texture which allows for better handling. Intensely perfumed and powerfully flavoured. Heavenly!

Jive Strawberries
Jive forms large, fleshy, easy-to-pick strawberries with very shiny orange-red fruits. Its berries are typically uniform and elongated with a somewhat broad and flattened nose. The slow ripening of the fruit results in a fruit weight that is significantly greater than average.

Malling Centenary
This UK early mid-season strawberry has superb flavour, outstanding taste, heavy yields and good shelf life. The fruits are very juicy and the eating quality is consistently good with high sugar levels and an excellent strawberry flavour.

Cascade Delight Raspberries
An early floricane variety originally from USA, cropping from June/July for about four weeks. Cascade Delight's long fruit-bearing laterals make it an ideal variety for harvesting by hand. Very vigorous and it produces a good crop of large, conical berries with sweet red flesh.

Glen Ample Raspberries
An exceptional, high-yielding raspberry variety that produces a heavy crop between late June and late July.
The large, deep red berries hold well without spoiling and the spine free canes make easy picking. The succulent berries are excellent eaten fresh or from frozen.

Glen Dee Raspberries
Vigorous raspberry variety producing large fruit with good flavour in mid to late summer. The regular conical fruits with spine-free stems make them easy to harvest.

Kotata Blackberries
Magnificent crops of very long large berries, borne on vigorous thorny canes. Flavour sharp until fully ripe, then sweet and full of juice. Makes marvellous bramble jelly, delicious in pies when mixed with other fruit such as apples. Freezes well.

Karaka Black Blackberries
Firm and easy to pick, these mammoth-sized, dark black shiny berries are some of the largest blackberry fruits we have ever seen! The thorny stems produce a good crop with excellent flavour that can be picked over a very long season from early July onwards. Delicious in desserts, jams and preserves, and excellent for freezing.

Sylvan Blackberries
Sylvan blackberries have large long dark purple-black fruits with a superb flavour. Ready in early-mid July. High in vitamin C. Great for eating fresh!

Black Butte Blackberries
Unlike the traditional roadside bramble of Yesteryear, the current vogue has been to create intense flavour, early ripening and a MASSIVE increase in berry weight. BLACK BUTTE can grow to over 50mm long, making picking a simple task. We hope you enjoy this part of your visit!

Invicta Gooseberries
Traditional green gooseberries with high quality large fruits which have a really good flavour. Our Invicta gooseberries are often picked green, after they reach their full size but before they fully ripen. These are used in pies, tarts, jams and meat sauces.

Pax Gooseberries
In addition to the traditional green gooseberries, we have this dark red dessert flavoured Pax variety. Very sweet and easy to pick. NO THORNS! Pax gooseberries are picked when they are a deep red, plump and softening.

Ben Connan Blackcurrants
An intense concentrated flavour with an early maturity and large sized fruit borne on good length strigs. Make a cordial with them - it will be a treat!

Junifer Redcurrants
Redcurrant Junifer is probably the earliest fruiting redcurrant available, producing heavy crops of good flavoured, bright red currants on long strigs for easy picking. Junifer is a modern variety recently introduced from France and is an excellent culinary variety for Jams, pies etc.
