CLOSED SATURDAY 29TH JULY

We are sorry but we shall be closed Saturday, 29th July. This is partly due to the fact that we have very little ripe fruit available and also that the weather forecast is not very good. We plan to open again on Sunday 30th July when we hope to have a few strawberries and raspberries, but these will be limited. This will be confirmed on Saturday after 17.00 hours.

If and when we have some warm weather we will have plenty more raspberries available for picking and our last crop of blackberries. The strawberries are now coming to the end of their season.

NO STRAWBERRIES SAT 15TH JULY / CLOSED SUNDAY 16TH

We are sorry but we have no strawberries available for picking today Saturday,  15th July and only a limited amount of ripe raspberries but with plenty more to come. There are good crops of blackberries, red and black currants available.

Also we are sorry but  WE WILL BE CLOSED SUNDAY 16TH JULY, but will reopen on Tuesday 18th July at 10.00 a,m,

CLOSED ALL DAY SUNDAY 9TH JULY 2017

We are very sorry but we will be closed all day Sunday 9th July. This is due to the fact that we have had an incredibly busy day today and we just do not have any ripe fruit available. We will hopefully reopen on Tuesday 11th July at 10.00 a.m.

CASH /CHEQUES ONLY FOR FRIDAY 7TH AND SATURDAY 8TH JULY

We are sorry but the credit card machine has broken and we are waiting for a replacement to be delivered which wont be until some time on Saturday. In the meantime we are very happy to accept cash or cheques.  Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

We still have good crops of all fruits except gooseberries which have now come to the end of their season.

 

EARLY CLOSING SUNDAY 2ND JULY AT 1 PM

Please be aware that on Sunday 2nd July, our opening hours will be 9.00 a.m. until 1.00 p.m. This is due to the fact that we have had an extremely busy day today and we will run out of fruit before the end of tomorrow. We will resume normal hours on Tuesday 4th July.

fruit availability update 29/6/17

We have a reasonable crop of strawberries but these are likely to run out before the end of the weekend.  More strawberries will continue to ripen  and a new crop will follow shortly.  We have excellent crops of red and black currants, red and green gooseberries and blackberries. The raspberries will hopefully be ready this weekend.

Availability of fruit 25/5/17

We had an extremely busy day yesterday and now only have certain fruits available today. We have a small amount of strawberries which are likely to be picked by lunchtime, and there will not be any raspberries until the middle of next week. We still have full crops of blackberries, red and black currants and green and red gooseberries. Thank you

PYO openng Saturday 24th June

We are glad to say that the fruit farm will be opening this Saturday, 24th June at 9 a.m.

We will have available for picking a good crop of strawberries ,the first raspberries,  plenty of red and black currants and gooseberries. The blackberries will be ready in about another 3 to 4 days

Opening date for the new PYO 2017 season

The new pyo season is nearly upon us. We are now hoping to open on Saturday 24th June at 9.00 a.m. The delay is mainly due to the recent cold wet and very windy conditions. If anything changes we will update this web page. Please also check on the answer phone on  01727 831224. Thank you.

forthcoming news for 2017 pick your own season

The crops are all coming on well mainly because of the mild winter and Spring we have had so far. The cold spell coming this week might check the growth for a short while.

We hope to open for the season on about Saturday  10th June but will be able to confirm this nearer the time and will then be able to let you know what will be available for picking.

We look forward to welcoming back our regular customers and hope to see many more new customers as well.

FINAL OPENING DATES FOR THIS SEASON

The pick your season is coming to an end and we have very limited fruit available.

We shall be CLOSED SUNDAY 7TH AUGUST, MONDAY 8TH, TUESDAY 9TH, THURSDAY 11TH, AND FRIDAY 12TH.

We shall open on Wednesday 10th August from 10-6, and next Saturday 13th from 9-6. This will be our final day for this season.

We would like to thank you for your custom and hope to see you all again next year.

CLOSED FRIDAY 5TH AUGUST

The fruit farm will be closed this Friday 5th August but we will be open again on Saturday 6th.  We are gradually coming to the end of our pick your own season.

At present we still have a limited crop of raspberries, blackberries, and red currants . The black currants have nearly come to the end for this season. The gooseberries have finished. We still have a good crop of strawberries but they do need time to ripen and this is why from time to time we have to close for a day or so.

We are sorry but we are going to be closed this Sunday 31st July, to allow the next crop of strawberries to ripen. They will be ready for picking on Tuesday. There are still a limited amount of raspberries blackberries and currants which will also be available on Tuesday 2nd August. Thank you

new crop of strawberries now available 27th July

Thanks for waiting. At long last the first of the new crop of strawberries are now ready for picking. Please be aware  that we may occasionally have to close the field to allow  more of the fruit to ripen. Please always check either the website or answer phone to avoid disappointment. Thank you.

NO STRAWBERRIES THIS WEEKEND 23RD/24TH JULY

We are sorry that there will be NO strawberries available this weekend but we do hope to have a very large new crop  ready by wednesday of next week. Please be patient they will be worth it. This is a new variety called Jive which has had very good reviews on their trials,IMG_2169

Fruit Availability as at 17th July

We have been experiencing large numbers of Customers which has resulted in end of our available Ripe Strawberries today Sunday 17th July

Subject to the weather over the next few days we would expect our next Strawberries to be ready for picking on Friday 22nd July.

We are pleased to confirm we have plentiful amounts of Raspberries, Blackberries, Black & Red Currants. We have limited Red Gooseberries, but a good supply of Green Gooseberries.

ADVANCED NOTICE CLOSED FRIDAY 15TH JULY

We would like to advise you that next Friday 15th July we will unfortunately have to close due to the fact that our power is being cut for 12 hours. Obviously that means that we will have no telephone lines to work the card machine, no weighing scales and no till. Also the answer phone will not be on. Normal service should be resumed on Saturday 16th July.

On a happier note we now have excellent crops of strawberries, red and black currants, red and green gooseberries, a limited amount of raspberries, but with the main crops still to come and the first few blackberries.

CLOSED SUNDAY 3RD JULY NOT ENOUGH RIPE FRUIT

We are sorry that we are unable to open the fruit farm today, sunday 3rd July. This is due to the fact that we do not have enough ripe fruit. We do hope to open again on Tuesday 5th July at 10.00 a.m. when we anticipate having a limited amount of strawberries and raspberries, a good crop of red currants and green gooseberries,  the first few black currants and possibly a few blackberries.

Thank you for all your patience. At long last we are opening our pick your own fruit farm. We shall open Friday 1st July, at 10.00 a.m.

We shall have available a limited amount of strawberries, the first crop of raspberries and red currants. The gooseberries and black currants we hope, weather permitting, should be ready in about a week.

Latest news on opening of the fruit farm

IMG_1869Thankfully the recent warmer days and more importantly less cold nights have helped the fruit set after an excellent show of flower truss growth. We are about two weeks late this year but hope to open the farm on Saturday 25th June @ 9 a.m. We will update our website again next Saturday, 18th June.

Raspberry Bakewell cake

Ingredients

150g softened butter
150g golden caster sugar
150g self raising flour
150g ground almonds
2 large eggs
1tsp vanilla extract
6 tsp raspberry jam
150g raspberries
50g flaked almonds

Method

Preheat oven to 180 c 160 c fan gas 4.
Line 22-24 cm loose bottom tin.
Put all ingredients (apart from fruit and jam ) in blender.
Place half of mixture into tin and smooth over.
Then dot jam over and then scatter with raspberries.
Put remainder of cake mix on top – don’t worry if it doesn’t cover completely.
Scatter almonds over and bake for 45-50 mins until golden brown.
Serve warm or at room temperature.

 

News about forthcoming pick your own 2016 season

Thank you for your interest in our forthcoming pick your own fruit season. The cold spring has delayed the fruit ripening and we expect to be open a little later than normal. The crops however are looking really encouraging.

Crunchy Gooseberry Whip

Ingredients:

1 lb (400g) gooseberries
3 tablespoons
(45 ml) clear honey 10 fl oz
(250 ml) double cream, whipped
1½ oz (40g) butter
3 ozs (75g) wholemeal breadcrumbs
1 or (25g) hazelnuts, chopped and toasted 2 tablespoons
(30 ml) demerara sugar

Method:

  1. Place gooseberries in a pan with 1 tablespoon (15 ml) water, cover and cook gently for 15 minutes until soft.
  2. Cool slightly, then puree in a blender or food processor. Sieve to remove tops and tails.
  3. Add honey and leave to cool. Stir in the whipped cream.
  4. Melt butter in frying pan, add the breadcrumbs and fry until golden brown. Leave to cool, then stir in hazelnuts and sugar.
  5. Divide half the gooseberry whip between 4 glasses and cover with half of the crumbs.
  6. Repeat the layers finishing with crumbs. Freezing of this dessert is not recommended.

END OF THE PICK YOUR OWN SEASON

We shall be closing our pick your own farm this Friday 7th August for the final time this season. Basically there is very little fruit left to pick and we do not want our customers to be disappointed.

Season ending soon

We are gradually coming to the end of our pick your own season. We still have a limited amount of raspberries, blackberries and currants, with a small amount still to come. The strawberries are basically finished and the remaining ones are small (but sweet).

Sorry but we are closed today Sunday 26th July, but will be open again on Tuesday the 28th at 10.00 a.m. We have very little ripe fruit available but should have good crops of raspberries, red and black currants and blackberries again by Tuesday. There will also be a limited amount of strawberries. Thank you.

SATURDAY 25TH JULY

We are open again today Saturday 25th July. We have good crops of raspberries red and black currants and blackberries available, and some strawberries but we do need some warm weather to ripen the latest crop. Please be aware that certain areas of the farm are rather waterlogged.

We still have good crops of raspberries, red and black currants and blackberries, which should continue for at least another 10 days to 2 weeks. The strawberries are limited but should be available for at least one more week.

19th July Latest update for fruit availability

We have had another very busy few days, and so unfortunately there are VERY FEW strawberries available for picking today. There will be another crop available by the middle of next week.
The gooseberry crop has now finished, but we still have plenty of raspberries, blackberries, and red and black currants available for picking.

Latest Update

We are open again from today Tuesday 14th July after having to close on Sunday 12th due to the fact that we had no ripe fruit available. We are glad to say that we now have excellent crops of strawberries, raspberries, blackberries and red and black currants available. The green and red gooseberries have now nearly finished their crops.

We are sorry but the fruit farm will be closed today Sunday 12th July but we will be open again on Tuesday 14th July when we should have good crops of strawberries, raspberries and red and black currants. The gooseberries are nearing the end of their season.

We now have all our fruits available.
Strawberries, raspberries, red and blackcurrants, the first few blackberries and green and red gooseberries.

The crops of strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, red and blackcurrants should be available for several weeks to come.
The red gooseberries are now nearly finished and the green gooseberries will probably be passed their best in a week to ten days.

no strawberry alert for Sunday 5th July

We have experienced an extremely busy day today Saturday 4th July and subsequently there are very
few strawberries available for picking this Sunday 5th July. There are of course plenty more to come
over the next few days and weeks.

There are a limited amount of raspberries to pick with obviously the main crop still to come.
The green and red gooseberries, and the red and black currants are ready for picking now and the
nlackberries are just turning and should be ready by mid week.
